Personal Profile

Born and raised in Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland, Gillian splits her time between her family home, which is still in the town, and her Tour base in Surrey. A very Scottish girl, she is immensely proud of her heritage and is never happier than when she is at home in her beloved Highlands.

Educated at Inverness Royal Academy and then Edinburgh University (BSc Business Studies), she subsequently gained her PGA qualification in 1989.

She turned professional in 1985 having first assembled a spectacular amateur record. After winning her first tournament played as a professional - the Ford Ladies Classic, she went on to carve out a splendid career as a Tournament Professional playing the European Tour full time until 2000.

On the Professional Golf Tour Gillian has often been dubbed by the press as "the professional's professional". Dedication and attention to detail in the pursuit of excellence are her trademarks, the very same qualities which make her such an outstanding teacher. She is a clear thinking individual who thrives under pressure and is passionate about the game of golf and its traditions.

She is a member of both the Ladies European Tour and the Professional Golfers' Association. A keen student of the game, she is also a member of the World Scientific Congress of Golf Trust and BASES (British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences). In 2003 she qualified as an NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) Sports Practitioner.

She is an excellent golf coach who has the rare ability to share her enthusiasm for the game with her clients. Her years of playing on the Women's Tour have given her a unique background into teaching the game and has made her approach to it far more holistic than that of conventional teachers. With her delightful sense of humour she makes the task of learning a difficult game an absolute pleasure. She is much sought after as a golf consultant and general spokesperson for her industry.

Golfing achievements have seen her included as a current entrant in "Debrett's People of Today".

Her interests include: The golf swing, golf instruction, all other aspects of golf, communication, health and exercise science, nature, hill-walking including Munro-bagging, spectating at major sporting events, good food, wine and gracious living!
